BABS: coaching and behavioural support

Kate La Trobe

Kate is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and certified ADHD coach. Within BABS, her work focuses on executive function, regulation, routines and the patterns that can make everyday life harder for neurodivergent children and families.

Look past the visible behaviour

Behaviour tells us something. It does not always tell us exactly what is happening underneath.

A child who appears oppositional may be struggling with task initiation, flexibility, overwhelm or a demand they do not yet know how to manage. A child who can complete something once may not be able to reproduce it consistently under different conditions.

Understanding that context does not remove boundaries or expectations. It helps make those expectations more workable.

Executive function

Planning, starting, organising, remembering, managing time, switching between tasks and completing what has been started can all affect school and family life.

Regulation

Regulation can affect what a child can access in the moment, how they respond to demands and how quickly everyday situations escalate.

Routines and patterns

Coaching can help families look at repeated patterns and build practical structures that make everyday demands easier to manage.

Report + Coaching

Within BABS, coaching can follow profiling when a family wants help applying what they have learnt about the child or family in daily life.

The work is practical. It may focus on executive-function demands, routines, regulation or the places where good intentions repeatedly fall apart once real life starts.

How Kate’s work connects with BABS

The useful starting point may be an NBI® profile with Lauren, closer educational work with Nicola, or coaching support with Kate when the family already understands the problem and needs help with what happens next.

The aim is to use the right part of the team for the question in front of you.

Kate’s wider practice

Kate also works independently outside BABS. Her wider professional work is separate from the Neuroparenting Hub and can be explored through her own practice.
